What is Andropause?
Most of us are familiar with menopause and its effects on women, but men can face similar symptoms during Andropause. Andropause is the term associated with a reduction in male hormones and the constellation of resulting symptoms associated with the aging process. Andropause has a wide range of symptoms and affects men at different ages. Symptoms such as fatigue, loss of muscle mass and strength, anxiety, low mood, reduced motivation, low libido, and reduced erectile function are potentially related to reduced serum hormone levels.
Your Hormones
Dihydroepiandosterone (DHEA), Testosterone, and Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) are a few of the hormones closely related to the changes referenced above. These hormones also have a large effect on the male brain, vastly modulating neurotransmitters such as Serotonin, GABA, Dopamine, and Cortisol. These neurotransmitters are the most impactful proteins affecting sleep, positive mood, calm, and general motivation. With reduced hormones, levels of neurotransmitters are commensurately reduced, resulting in mood changes that we associate with Andropause.
Reestablish Balance
At Regenerative Medicine of Carmel, we strive to reestablish balance between male hormones and brain neurochemistry in an integrated way, employing Bioidentical Hormones, natural Amino Acids, and Endocrine-Balancing Supplements delivered most conveniently and effectively. We will comprehensively evaluate hormone and neurotransmitter levels to best evaluate and balance all systems causing your symptoms. We often find that a small amount of several very high-quality products is dramatically superior to giving any high-dose single substance. This way, we can reestablish proper homeostatic balance longer and more effectively.
Whatever your goals around aging, we are here to support your journey. Upon initial consultation, we will address your specific goals and design a program centered around you. If you have ever been told to accept your limitations because "you are getting older" or "this is how you are supposed to feel", we disagree. Though aging has challenges, it is never too late to work toward better health. If andropause sounds like the cause of your symptoms, let our doctors properly assist you in your return to balance, no matter the stage in your life.
